Rumors are that Apple will leave major redesign of iPhone to 2018

macintoshpostWith the announcement and subsequent launch of the 2017 Apple iPhone weeks away, rumors are circulating about what to expect and not to expect from this year’s iPhone. Here is what we know so far:

Form factor

The 2017 iPhone will maintain the look and the feel of the current iPhone 6S models. The only visible differences seen in leaked shots are changes to the rear antenna bands. All of the big changes to the design have been pushed back to 2018, probably due to some facets of the technology used not being ready for production.

Naming

There are a lot of potential names going around but it looks like Apple will do away with the S naming cycle. The probability is high that it will simply be known as the iPhone SE, iPhone, iPhone Plus.

Smaller Phone

It is also possible that there will be an updated version of the iPhone SE this year. No details are available on design of features. It does make sense given the demand for smaller phones around the world. A lot of users did not upgrade the iPhone 5 because the 6 and 6 Plus were so much bigger.

Features

Every year’s iPhone has had at least one headline feature. Sometimes it has been software, like Siri or hardware like the fingerprint scanner. This year not much is known other than the fact that there might be some level of waterproofing.
